Meet Merrilee

A strong voice for
Kanata-Carleton

Dr. Merrilee Fullerton is a medical professional who has spent her career speaking out and helping people in her community. In 2018 Merrilee was elected to be your Member of Provincial Parliament for the riding of Kanata-Carleton.

Having graduated from University of Ottawa Medical School, Merrilee practiced locally, first serving out of the Carleton Place Hospital and then as a family physician at Med-Team Clinic in Kanata. Dr. Fullerton has been very active in professional medical associations and local health care organizations, including advisory roles with both the Ontario Medical Association and Canadian Medical Association, and membership in the City of Ottawa Board of Health and the local LHIN serving Ottawa and area. She is a constant advocate for better universal health care services, and strengthening Ottawa health care.

Merrilee is a wife and mother, raising her three children in a busy Kanata household with Steve, her husband of 36 years. Between her active family life and her career as family physician, Merrilee has always made time for volunteering with neighbourhood groups and her children’s recreational activities. With her extensive professional credentials and her passion for her community, Merrilee is recognized as a strong, positive voice for the residents of Kanata-Carleton.

As your Kanata-Carleton MPP she has established many community initiatives: high tech and business initiative, shop local awareness campaign, community volunteer roundtables and network, and a healthy living information campaign. Merrilee has worked to support our community through the devastating tornadoes of 2018, Ottawa River floods and, today, she is supporting the local social and economic recovery from the pandemic.

In assuming office, Merrilee was asked by Ontario Premier Doug Ford to serve in Cabinet and in the government’s four-year mandate has held some of the most challenging portfolios. Currently she serves as Minister for Children, Community and Social Services – the third largest portfolio in Ontario. Merrilee has also served as Minister for Long-Term Care and Minister for Training, Colleges and Universities.

Merrilee Fullerton is seeking re-election to continue serving your interests and to be your voice in the Provincial Government.
