Dr. Merrilee Fullerton wants “to continue to serve”

KANATA-CARLETON / May 4, 2022 – Dr. Merrilee Fullerton, the PC incumbent in the riding of Kanata-Carleton, provided the following promise at the outset of the Ontario election: “I will promise the people of Kanata and West Carleton the same commitment I made to them in 2018: that I will work hard for their interests and for our community. I will work hard, every day.”

“Over the past four years it has been an honour to serve my home, the place where I grew up, raised a family, and served as a family physician. And I wish to continue to serve,” says the career medical doctor who was first elected in 2018.

“It has been challenging for us in Kanata and West Carleton,” says Fullerton. “I have actively supported residents and the tremendous community efforts that have seen us through natural disasters of tornados and floods. Then we needed to manage a health crises through a once-in-a-lifetime pandemic. Still there have been important developments in our community, like Hub350 in the Tech Park and the new Dave Smith Youth Treatment Centre in Carp. We have seen investments in our community assets, like the Diefenbunker Museum and the West Carleton snowmobile bridge – and the province has invested in everything from the Kanata Seniors Centre to the Kanata Rec Centre.”

“The PC Government has delivered for the City of Ottawa as well,” says Fullerton. “We have a new facility being built at the Ottawa Hospital and a new treatment centre at CHEO, $1.21 billion for the LRT and millions of dollars more for public transit, and we have supported local R&D and tech companies that help make Ottawa an attractive high tech hub.”

The Kanata-Carleton PC candidate explained what this provincial election would focus on. Fullerton says, “This election is about who can best support the province’s recovery. Who will provide what is needed for our health care, grow the economy, support our community, social services and local businesses, support our agriculture sector and family farms.”

“Doug Ford and the PCs have a plan that will build Ontario – to stay open, support business, and help to keep costs down for individuals and families,” Fullerton adds, “Before we were elected, we had 15 years of mismanagement under Premiers Wynne and McGuinty – and the current Liberal leader was a cabinet minister during the times when hydro prices skyrocketed, hospital funding was frozen, and the serious gaps were created in health care.”

“Our PC government is doing everything possible to catch up from those years – with infrastructure in hospitals, highways and homes, essential investments in our health care facilities and in staff, and providing more support for skilled trades and workers.”

Merrilee Fullerton adds, “We live in a wonderful community. There is much to be grateful for and I look forward to continuing to serve my community. I hope to be re-elected so that I can work towards a better community for all of us today, and for the next generation who will be fortunate to be living here in Kanata and West Carleton.”
